DCLA & The International Diamond Council (IDC)

The International Diamond Council (IDC), established in 1975, is a leading authority in the diamond industry, created to promote and regulate the global diamond trade. It is a joint initiative of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA), two of the most prestigious diamond organizations worldwide. The IDC’s mission is to uphold the integrity and reputation of the diamond industry by setting ethical and technical standards, ensuring transparency, and fostering cooperation among all stakeholders.

One of the IDC’s most notable contributions is the introduction of the International Diamond Grading System (IDGS) in 1978. The IDGS provides a standardized, objective framework for evaluating diamonds based on the Four Cs: Carat weight, Clarity, Color, and Cut, and has become the global benchmark for diamond grading.

The IDC also plays a critical role in preventing the trade of conflict diamonds or “blood diamonds,” working alongside governments, NGOs, and industry bodies to ensure that diamonds are sourced responsibly and ethically, protecting both the industry’s reputation and human rights.

DCLA is Australia’s only IDC-accredited laboratory and holds the country’s exclusive National Diamond Masterset, the C2Au set. As the only CIBJO Diamond Grading laboratory in Australia, DCLA adheres to the highest international standards, providing trusted diamond certification and reinforcing consumer confidence in the diamond market.

The IDC’s work is vital to preserving consumer trust, ensuring diamonds remain a symbol of love, beauty, and lasting value.
